Intro to goodseeds
October 12, 2026My life right now is a feat of knowledge management. That’s one way to put it. But I much rather prefer a metaphor, a comparison to an office I am deeply familiar with and respect. My life is that of a disciple.
Imagine the life of one of the Gospel writers — Matthew or John — following Jesus around 1st century Israel. They were hearing, seeing, and doing extraordinary things they could hardly keep up with. To be sure, they could remember so much more without taking notes, but I’d like to think they were jotting a couple things down during the Sermon on the Mount.
In this new role, I traffic to and fro across the Atlanta metro fielding phone calls, virtual calls, in-person meetings, working lunches so I can better support the dynamic teams and complex operations. It feels good to be working in the physical world and not the virtual world, but now, not every meeting has an AI summary to look back on. The task before me is managing information as being hurled at me.
On top of that, it’s one of those seasons in life where God wants to do something in your heart. You know it, you feel the tugging, the stretching, the pressure, the “what just happened” moments — and for the first time, Aubrey and I get to experience it together. It is as real as the work that needs to get done in the day to day. The invitation is into deeper into life with God, and part of the call is stewarding the revelation that God is giving.
My knowledge system has been keeping me afloat. Ask me about my Supernote sometime, I won’t nerd out on the details, but the main function is Capture > Surface > Reflect. No AI analysis — my brain is on the hook.
At its core, this is the same flywheel of inputs and outputs that I have become all-too-familiar with in my creative practice. Come to find out, knowledge management is important for more things than writing an essay in the morning. It’s more important than taking notes to pass an exam at the end of the semester. It’s more important than creating SOPs so your business can run more efficiently. What we make of our inputs and outputs is what we make of the world.
I say all this to say: Knowledge management is is central to how I am experiencing life right now — professionally, spiritually, and creatively.
One way that I have been processing information is a running list of thoughts and ideas called ‘goodseeds’. I have come to love the hierarchical system of bullets and sub-bullets — parent thoughts and child thoughts that are related to the one that came before it — it keeps the ideas short and fluid. Often to my surprise, one bullet flows to the next and I have a long string of thoughts.
My hope is to release ‘goodseeds’ on a weekly basis. Disclaimers in advance:
- They are fun, casual, and raw — not intended to be an actual opinion or belief.
- Sometimes they are notes on what others are saying that are not my own convictions.
- Every day, a new date heading will appear, but some days I won’t drop any seeds. This is on purpose, so I can see trends of inputs and outputs.
- They are personal short-hand, so they might not always make sense, but potentially thought-provoking to the right ears.
Here are all my goodseeds so far. Next Sunday, I hope to have planted more.

- An honor from her — trust.
- An honor from God.

- How we learn a pattern is like how we learn language
- We don’t memorize, we feel. We intuit. We test. We repeat.
- A baby muttering noises until they articulate words, suddenly the world responds positively. Rinse and repeat.
- Language Transfer - Not memorizing Spanish but practicing sentences from what is known in English and Latin
- A baby muttering noises until they articulate words, suddenly the world responds positively. Rinse and repeat.
- The same is true for writing or a creative practice
- We ought not feel like we need to practice perfectly
- We ought to ship work that is like a baby tries to talk until we discover the pattern
- Writing is unique in this way, as a vehicle for understanding, we can mutter ideas that may not make sense or truths that may be false
- But the act of seeing and hearing and correcting leads us to truth.
- Writing is unique in this way, as a vehicle for understanding, we can mutter ideas that may not make sense or truths that may be false
- What all is made up of patterns?
- Pattern = system?
- We don’t memorize, we feel. We intuit. We test. We repeat.

- I’ve always had a hard time formulating an opinion before writing it down
- Tale of two mentors

- I’ve been struggling with The Foundation season 2
- Each episode MUST leave on a cliffhanger, which leaves me feeling perpetually empty
- And annoyingly, thinking about the story’s loose ends at random
- This is opposed to appreciating the full arc of a movie, the meta narrative, the director’s vision/philosophy/worldview as one coherent piece of art

- President Barack Obama said, “If you had to choose one moment in history in which you could be born, and you didn’t know ahead of time who you were going to be — what nationality, what gender, what race, whether you’d be rich or poor, gay or straight, what faith you’d be born into — you wouldn’t choose 100 years ago. You wouldn’t choose the fifties, or the sixties, or the seventies. You’d choose right now.”
- The Veil of Ignorance: without bias, you opt for self-preservation, thereby selecting an environment (society, system, time period) that is conducive to the “worst of the best” circumstances
- The highest likelihood of self preservation is this modern life.
- 2026 is, statistically speaking, most adept for safety, wealth, quality of life.

- “No matter how weak and negative a good man is, he has as many sins on him as he can bear.”
- No matter how rich
- No matter what era
- All men have as many sins on him as he can bear
- “For the honest, sensitive soul, this is crushing… especially when it is a good man that we aspire to be.”
- Virtue is not enough.
- A vision of the good life is not enough.
- To know, to become acquainted with, to implicate into suffering, is to truly is to be human.
